Hundred Hills Winery

Working as part of the Nichols Brown Webber team, I delivered planning and technical design drawings for the Hundred Hills winery storage building. The winery formed the first phase of a group of buildings designed to support the winemaking and marketing operations of the Hundred Hills vineyard. Following completion, a storage barn accommodating half a million bottles was constructed, alongside the refurbishment of a listed farmhouse and granary. The winery was awarded the Chilterns Society Building of the Year.

The building was designed to be timeless and to sit quietly within its rural setting, drawing on the forms and materials of traditional Chiltern barns. A generous oak-framed loggia defines the entrance, while a restrained palette of dark-stained timber weatherboarding, flint and brick, and plain clay roof tiles allows the building to nestle into the surrounding landscape. Internally, the winery houses a state-of-the-art winemaking facility, including four-tonne presses and 6-metre-high fermentation tanks. Visitors can tour the production areas, sample wines in the tasting lounge, and visit the cellars below, with first-floor hospitality spaces enjoying expansive views across the vineyard and surrounding countryside.
